Gunite pools (also known as plaster, or shotcrete pools) are the highest quality pools available. Not only are they durable and easy to care for, each pool is custom designed to fit your needs and to compliment your home.
The strength of cured concrete depends on the amount of water used in its preparation: the more water used, the weaker the concrete. Gunite is pumped completely dry under extremely high pressure, and is mixed with a very small amount of water at the nozzle of a high pressure hose. This extremely dry application makes gunite ideal for bridge and foundation construction, and makes virtually indestructible pool shells.
To waterproof the gunite pool shells, a thin layer of marble plaster is applied over top of the gunite. Properly cared for, a plaster lining can last for 25 years. Gunite pools have a finished beauty that can withstand broken glass, swimming dogs, harsh winters, and years of heavy use.
Once you've chosen a pool shape and size, the site is surveyed, and marked out with steel rods and boards.
Next the pool is excavated.
A frame made of steel rods is built, and the plumbing and lighting is rigged.
The gunite is sprayed around the steel frame to make a permanent shell. Spray guards are erected to protect your property from overspray.
The gunite is shaped, molded and sculpted into shape. Six foot love seats built off of the second step are standard.
After the coping and tiling is in place, plaster is applied, and polished to a smooth finish.
As soon as the plastering is done, add water so the plaster cures properly.
Your gunite pool makes a beautiful addition to your home, turning an ordinary backyard into a summer paradise!
